Who is Chancexpression?

Chancexpression is a translation company based in Portugal, which provides translation and language services to national and international clients. Where is Chancexpression located?

Chancexpression is headquartered in Caneças (Portugal) and, if you make an appointment, we are more than happy to welcome you to our premises. However, the physical location of our facilities does not prevent us from working with clients from anywhere in the country and all around the world. We know that certain situations are more easily resolved face to face, whether answering questions or handing over physical documents, but if this is impossible, do not worry—we always find a solution. Why is Chancexpression’s website not written under the Portuguese Language Orthographic Agreement?

The short answer is, “to make a statement”. First and foremost, we want to state the following: we often work with translations written in line with the new orthographic rules, and we are not against orthographic agreements in general since we extensively use the 1945 Language Orthographic Agreement. We oppose the 1990 Orthographic Agreement in particular because we believe it was created for unnecessary reasons, elaborated negligently and imposed for political purposes. We also believe the result of its implementation will undermine the consistency of the Portuguese language, which is one of the richest languages in the world. We do not make this claim out of mere stubbornness. We see it happening every day by receiving translations containing a mixture of spellings from before and after the 1990 Orthographic Agreement, which goes to show the profound confusion regarding the rules implemented. Over the years, we have compiled internal material that allows us to help clients “clean up” translations received from other sources, and to give advice about inconsistencies. We specialize in translating and reviewing texts that follow the 1990 Orthographic Agreement, as a matter of professional pride, but whenever we can we make our own statement. Therefore, all our digital content, website pages, social networks, e-mail messages and electronic communications are written using the spelling convention before the 1990 Orthographic Agreement, because we believe the fight to preserve our language should be a priority.

Does the quote have costs?

No, the quote is free and tailor-made for the specific needs of each client. It is given for the particular job presented by the client. After the job has been commissioned, should any additional services or tasks be requested, they will have associated costs, which will be added to the original quote. Which payment methods do we accept?

What is our pricing?

Our pricing varies depending on the type of service provided. Clients are as diverse as the needs of each job, so it would be impossible to present a hard-and-fast price list. What is your approach to confidentiality?

Confidentiality is one of our top priorities. We treat all our clients’ documents and texts as strictly confidential, whether it is from a corporate client or a private customer. We undertake to respect the confidentiality of documents submitted and not to disclose any information to third parties either during or after the provision of the service, except to suppliers rendering the service in question, who must sign a confidentiality agreement with us. What is the difference between revision and proofreading?

In most cases, translation companies offer revision services only, but we believe some jobs require proofreading only rather than a thorough revision. What is Localization? Why not just call it translation?

Technically, localization is translation, but over the years it has stood out as a distinct service, since it is a more skilled task than other types of translation, requiring adaptation to the target audience, among other things. What is a certified translation?

Certified translation differs from other types of translation because it involves the translation of documents that need to be officially certified to have legal value in Portugal or abroad. What should I do if I need a certified translation?

I speak or have a friend who speaks English or another language fluently. Why should I use a translation company?

A high-quality translation does not depend on knowledge of the source and target languages alone. Given that machine translation is available, why pay professional translators?

This perpetual myth has repeatedly been proven false. A professional translator can never be replaced by software, regardless of how advanced or complex its algorithm is, because the sensitivity, empathy and understanding that must exist when interpreting a text, and in creating the subsequent translation, can never be produced by a machine. It is no accident that, despite millions invested every year in the production and development of machine translation software, the human factor has never ceased to be essential in the sector. We say this as a team that recognizes the importance of technology and regularly takes advantage of it to give customers high-quality results with fair deadlines and costs.
